Gnome Commander on Ubuntu

As a Total Commander fan, i also use Gnome commander on my Ubuntu laptop. You can directly start many programs from Gnome Commander command line. Write name of the prog. and press enter, that is it. The cursor not necessarily to be on command line. Just start typing it.

Gedit text editor highlights code scripts in many programming languages. Also works for Octave and R-project.
